I am five!
Lots of birthday celebrations for Herbie who turned five while we were in Northern Italy. On the day we went to an amazing spa in Merano with 25 pools, the following day we had birthday cake at Allelujah House, and then when we got home we had the lemon cake he had wanted all along. Birthday party with school friends still to come.

Nearly Two
I'm normally very proprietorial about my blog photographs, but I have got my hands so full it's hard to pick up a camera, and Tim did a pretty good job with this shot so I've allowed it on the blog!
This is Herbie in our new garden to be. We are all very excited about the building work which we hope will start happening soon on our house in Worcester Place. Herbie loves the garden there as it's great to kick a ball around in, one of his favourite things to do at the moment. He is going to be even more delighted when a few diggers and dumpers arrive. I am amazed at how fascinated he is by anything with wheels, or that flies. "nee nor", "car", "van", "truck", "choo choo" "plane" "copter" "wheel" are some of his favourite words.
He's still a very happy chappy most of the time, unless Tim tells him off and he crumples to the ground, or if I won't let him watch Peppa Pig "pig" or play on my Ipad "ipoo" in which case a huge tantrum ensues...

Herbie at 1 and a half
I do have other photos, but I just came across these and thought to myself "I must post _something_ on the blog!!" The girls are neglected too. Life is so hectic, but for good reasons, but I know it'll be nice to look back at some pictures and remember how it was, so I'm trying to make the effort, to do it at least sometimes....
Herbie is totally lovely at the moment (apart from when he wakes us at night, which is usually only once or so at the moment, unless you consider 530am to be the middle of the night, which I do even though he sometimes thinks it's morning...). His language is starting to take off, mainly with single words, (hot, poo, chocolate, up, bike, bang, shoe... all the essentials!) but he seems so capable at communicating with us by taking my hand, dragging me off somewhere and pointing, that he probably doesn't really see the point... I would really appreciate him talking a bit more though as we might avoid the tantrums if we could communicate better. He seems to understand almost everything we say to him.
He loves just going out and walking. Touching everything and trying to walk on every different surface. Running a lot. Climbing on things. Copying everything his sisters do. I am usually dashing somewhere, so this does lead to conflict on occasion... but fortunately he has a completely wonderful babysitter called Zita, who patiently takes him wherever he wants to go. He has a great time with her.
Herbie seems to be constantly hungry - his favourite things to eat are kiwi, banana, raspberries, blueberries, grapes, yoghurt, cereal, soup, broccoli, he tolerates pasta, which is of course his sisters' favourite so that's a relief. He's getting really big now, but still finds our numerous stairs a bit tiresome and likes to be carried up and down them...hopefully he'll get better that soon because he is so heavy.
I'm mainly amazed at how quickly he seems to pick things up. I think that this may in contrast to his sisters who are very good at selective hearing, whereas Herbie doesn't seem to need to be told very often before he gets the message. Just a few weeks ago, he kept climbing on the table, but now he's stopped. He won't sit in his high chair anymore, which makes it difficult to keep him still at the dinner table, but he's not too bad if the girls are sitting still too (which happens for about 1 minute per meal..).
Mainly we are exhausted keeping up with him, but he's a delightful bundle of energy to have to chase around.

Herbie's baptism
This weekend was Herbie's baptism. So, it took us a little longer than usual to get around to it this time...moving house among other things and co-ordinating all the interested parties led to the delay, but we got there in the end. It was a very happy day with lots of relatives and three lovely God Mothers - Patricia, Natascha and Kirsty. He is a very lucky boy!
15 months old now, and running around whenever he can. Herbie is still very very placid and happy boy - except in the middle of the night when he's driving his parents a bit crazy! He's making lots of lovely babbling sounds and has mastered the Africa style screech when he wants some attention. He loves music and will do some great moves whenever he hears some. He likes playing with balls and pulling everything he can out of the kitchen cupboards. He is constantly frustrated by the fact that we shut the kitchen door so that he can't get up the stairs and as far as he's concerned everything exciting seems to happen up there. His favourite foods are Kiwi, yoghurt, baked beans, shreddies and butternut squash soup. In any order, at any time of the day.
